What Is EKOply?
EKOply is an innovative sheet material made entirely from 100% recycled waste plastic. Think of it as a modern, sustainable alternative to plywood and timber – it looks similar, installs in a similar way, but outperforms traditional timber in a number of key areas, particularly in wet, outdoor, or high-traffic environments.
Unlike timber, EKOply doesn’t rot, warp, swell, or degrade when exposed to moisture. It needs no painting, sealing, or ongoing maintenance, and at the end of its life it can be fully recycled again – making it one of the most sustainable sheet materials currently available on the market.
About the Anti-Slip Version
The 20mm Anti-Slip sheet is constructed with an integral mesh layer built directly into the top skin during manufacture. This creates a reliable non-slip surface that doesn’t wear away or peel off over time – it’s part of the sheet itself, not an added coating.
The bottom face is smooth, so the sheet is genuinely multi-functional – anti-slip on top where you need grip, smooth on the reverse where a clean face is required.

What Can It Be Used For?
EKOply Anti-Slip sheets are incredibly versatile and suit a wide range of applications across both commercial and domestic projects:
- Flooring – workshops, factories, storage areas, industrial and commercial environments
- Lorry and vehicle decking – a popular and long-lasting alternative to timber deck boards
- Walkways and access platforms – safe underfoot even in wet conditions
- Outdoor decking – rot-proof and weatherproof with no ongoing maintenance
- Marine applications – boat decks and pontoons where moisture resistance is essential
- Stages and grandstands – robust load-bearing with a safe non-slip surface
- Play equipment – non-toxic to animals and children, chew resistant
- Shelving – both commercial and residential, indoors or out
For flooring applications, supporting structure should be at no greater than 350-400mm centres.
How Does It Compare to Timber and Plywood?
This is where EKOply really stands out:
- Timber will eventually rot if exposed to moisture without regular treatment – EKOply won’t
- Plywood can delaminate and swell when wet – EKOply is solid throughout with no layers to separate
- Marine plywood is expensive and still requires maintenance – EKOply costs less over its lifetime because there’s nothing to do to it once it’s installed
- All timber products need periodic painting, sealing, or treating – EKOply needs none of that, ever
For any application where the material is going to get wet, be exposed to the elements, or need to perform reliably over a long period of time without attention, EKOply is worth serious consideration.
Installation
EKOply can be cut and fixed in exactly the same way as traditional timber – using standard woodworking tools, saws, and screws. No specialist equipment or techniques are needed, making it suitable for both professional builders and confident DIYers.
A few tips worth knowing:
- Use standard wood screws or coach screws – no special fixings required
- Pre-drilling near edges is recommended to avoid any splitting
- Standard circular saw or jigsaw blades work perfectly well for cutting
- Always install anti-slip face upwards for flooring and decking applications
- For structural flooring, keep supporting joists or battens at no more than 350-400mm centres
An Environmentally Friendly Choice
Every EKOply sheet is made from 100% waste plastic that would otherwise end up in landfill. By choosing EKOply over virgin timber or standard plywood, you’re making a genuinely positive environmental choice – and because the sheets themselves can be recycled again at the end of their life, it supports a true circular economy.
For construction projects, landscaping schemes, or commercial builds where sustainability credentials matter, EKOply is a material worth specifying.
