FAQ
Should I choose individual palisade pales or a pre-made panel?
Individual pales - available in pointed and round top profiles - give you full control over pale spacing, fence length, and height, and are the right choice when the run is an awkward length, the ground slopes, or you want a specific gap between pales. They are fixed individually to rails spanning between posts. The pre-made round top panel is a faster option for straight runs on level ground - the pales are already fixed to the rails at a set spacing, so installation is quicker and fewer decisions are needed on site. Both approaches use the same pale profile; the difference is convenience versus flexibility.
What rail and post spacing should I use for individual palisade pales?
Rails are typically spaced at two per bay for fences up to around 1.2 m, with a top and bottom rail fixed horizontally between posts. Post spacing of up to 1.83 m centres is standard for most residential palisade fencing using individual pales on sawn rails. The 22 mm x 75 mm rail at 3.6 m is available in this range for longer spans, though cutting to fit is straightforward on site. Pales are nailed or screwed through the face into each rail - galvanised fixings are essential outdoors to avoid rust staining on the pale face.
