Bespoke Gates, Made Right Here

At Timberstore, we don’t just sell timber – we have our own on-site mill, which means we can cut, shape, and build to your exact requirements rather than asking you to fit your project around standard sizes. When it comes to gates, that makes a real difference.

Whether you have an awkward gap to fill, an entrance that’s just slightly wider than standard, or you simply want a gate built exactly the way you want it, we can help. Just tell us what you need and we’ll make it.

What We Make

We specialise in timber gates built from quality treated softwood, most commonly using tongue and groove or featheredge boarding – both tried and tested materials that look great and stand up well to the elements. We also make palisade gates and hit & miss style gates, so whatever look you’re after there’s likely an option to suit.

  • Tongue and groove gates – a neat, flush boarded finish with no overlapping boards, giving a clean, contemporary look. Popular for garden entrances, driveways, side gates, and anywhere a tidier finish is preferred
  • Featheredge gates – the classic, solid boarded look with overlapping featheredge boards for a robust, traditional appearance. A natural match if you have featheredge fencing elsewhere in your garden
  • Palisade gates – open style gates with individual vertical pales, ideal for front gardens, driveways, and anywhere you want a more open, decorative look without full enclosure
  • & MANY more –  if you have something else in mind, a different style, a combination of features, or a design you’ve seen elsewhere – just ask. With our own mill we have far more flexibility than a standard timber merchant.

Strong Construction

All our gates are built on a solid framework as standard. For larger gates – particularly those designed to take an electric opening mechanism – we can build a heavier, more substantial frame to handle the additional weight and mechanical stress involved. Just let us know what the gate needs to do and we’ll make sure the construction is right for the job.

We also offer morticed and tenoned joinery on most of our framed gates for superior strength and longevity.

Any Size, Any Requirement

Standard gate sizes don’t always match real world gaps – and that’s exactly where we come in. Whether your entrance is slightly wider than standard, you need a particularly tall gate for extra privacy, or you’re working with an unusual shape or gradient, we can accommodate it. Just give us your measurements and we’ll take it from there.

What to Have Ready When You Contact Us

To get you an accurate quote as quickly as possible, it helps to have the following to hand:

Measurements

  • Measure the width of the gap at the top, middle, and bottom – gaps are often not perfectly parallel and all three measurements are needed, as you’ll also need to allow for the gate to swing freely without catching
  • If you’re replacing an existing gate, you can measure the old gate itself as a guide – but bear in mind that if the gate is old it may have expanded from moisture, bowed, twisted, or warped over time and may no longer reflect the true gap size accurately
  • The height you need the gate to be

Gate Specification

  • Are you making a single gate or a pair?
  • Your preferred style – tongue and groove, featheredge, palisade, batten, or something else – just let us know and we can advise
  • Will the gate be used with an electric opening mechanism? If so, please mention this as it affects the frame specification
  • What type of hinges you’d like to use – standard garden gate hinges, heavy duty field gate hinges, or something specific – different applications call for different hardware
  • Which side are you hanging the gate on? We can make it universal or sided.

What to Include in the Quote

  • Do you need just the gate, or would you like us to include posts, hinges, door stop, and accessories in the quote too?

The more information you can give us upfront, the more accurate your quote will be and the faster we can turn it around for you. Not sure about any of the above? Just get in touch and we’ll guide you through it.
