How to Install Wooden Trellis Panels?

To install lattice and trellis panels, secure them firmly to a robust support structure, such as timber fence posts or a solid building wall, to ensure their stability and longevity. For freestanding applications, set 75x75at least 50×50 mm timber posts at least 600 mm into the ground using post fix concrete, then secure the panels using screws or U-brackets. If you are using trellis as a topper for existing fence panels, use timber post extenders or fix battens directly to the posts to create a solid mounting point. To attach trellis panels to a brick or stone wall, first fix vertical timber battens to the wall. These battens create a necessary air gap of 30 – 60 mm, which allows support climbing plants to weave through and prevents moisture from being trapped against the wall. This protects both the wooden trellis panel and the masonry. In all installations, ensure the base of the trellis or lattice panel is raised slightly off the ground to prevent contact with standing moisture.

How to Maintain and Protect Lattice & Trellis Panels?

To maintain and protect your lattice and trellis fence panels, you need to take two key actions: treat any timber you cut and clean the panels annually. Applying a clear, water-repellent wood sealer or a UV-blocking stain every few years will enhance the finish, prevent the timber from greying and provide an additional layer of protection against the elements.
